BOWBEARER of the Forest of Bowland and owner of Browsholme Hall, Robert Parker, has appointed an Official Story Teller to bring alive the rich history of Lancashire’s oldest surviving family home.
Well-known local personality and collector of Ribble Valley folklore Simon Entwistle will reveal some of the darkest and scariest secrets of the hall and surrounding area at his first storytelling event at Browsholme this Sunday during an hour-long evening tour of the hall.
Dressed in a Victorian frock coat and top hat, Simon will narrate some of the ghostly goings-on from the hall’s long and colourful history, which stretches back to 1507. Highlights include a skull from a beheaded priest which must be kept locked away or the Parker family will fall, and the ghostly white horse seen climbing the staircase leading out of the main hall.
Simon’s inimitable style of storytelling will also explore local legends such as the famous Bashall Eaves murder of 1934 and highlight the significance of some of the important historical artefacts in the hall.
